SAMI, KEFALONIA | A PHOTO DIARY

Hey everyone!

Greece is one of my favourite places to visit. There are so many islands to explore. This time round I visited the beautiful island of Kefalonia in the Ionian Sea.

We stayed in Sami, a port in the east of the island. It's a great location with lots of nearby things to do. The main attractions being the beautiful Antisamos Beach, where Captain Corellis Mandolin was filmed. Melissani Cave, and the Island of Ithaca are also a short journey away.

We stayed in Hotel Pericles, about ten minutes out of Sami. It was a very simple hotel, but had everything we needed, including a free breakfast. Below is a picture of the view we had.

Most restaurants in Sami are at the harbours edge, Adonis being our favourite. The vegetarian moussaka and the baked eggplants where the best food we ate all holiday.

We decided to do a day tour to the nearby island of Ithaca, travelling with Sami Star II. This included two swim stops in secluded bays, only accessible by boat, and also a visit to Vathi for a walk around and Kioni for lunch. Both of these villages where beautiful.

The buildings in Vathi are beautifully coloured, all bright or pastel.

After visiting Melissani Cave, we decided to walk back to Sami, through Karavamylos. We stopped for lunch by the lake, which is made up of water from the nearby cave.

Antisamos Beach is in a horseshoe bay, with tavernas and water activities. A long twisting road around the mountains is the only way to access this glorious beach. It is covered in white stones that glisten under the water, and a small array of fish swim close to shore. It is a great place to snorkel. There are tavernas that offer free sun beds, drinks and snacks.

I would recommend Sami as a great spot for a holiday, and also recommend hiring a car to get around as this would give you more freedom during your stay. I was only there a week, so it wasn't a complete necessary for me and my travel companion.

Everyone is very friendly in Sami, and the food is amazing. I couldn't get enough of the traditional Greek cuisine.

THE WHITEST BEACH ON EARTH

Hello everyone!

Maybe the title is a little misleading, but i doubt you can visit a beach and say that it is the whitest in the world, it's more like: 'this is the whitest beach that i have ever seen in my life'.  Which is the case here.

I introduce you to Lucky Bay, situated in Cape Le Grand National Park, 50km East of Esperance in Western Australia. AKA one of the whitest beaches in Australia, possibly the whitest in my opinion.

We pulled up in the car park at Lucky Bay, which is also a popular camping spot and has basic facilities such as a toilet, BBQ facilities and picnic tables. If you have a 4WD then you can drive onto the beach and park up wherever you fancy.

We spent a good few hours having lunch and taking a stroll along the shoreline, having a photo shoot as we went.

Just look at the clash of colour between the sun, sea and sand!

The serenity of this place was incredible. It was so calming and you immediately feel all of your troubles go away.

One of the other reasons to visit this beautiful place, if the views weren't enough already, is to meet the locals. By locals, i mean the kangaroos that live in the area and spend most of their days greeting visitors on the sandy shores.

 Can you get anymore Australian?

Cape Le Grand is a beautiful National Park, and just like the majority of parks in Australia their is a small fee to pay upon entry. But this gives you the whole day to explore.

Whilst in the area we decided to go on a little hike up Frenchman's Peak. I say a little hike, it did only take an hour to reach the summit... walking at a 90° angle! It could almost be classed as rock climbing!

But the summit gave you a 360° uninterrupted view of the surrounding land, and you could see for miles in each direction!

Looking down whilst halfway, and looking back up once at the bottom!

This place should definitely be on everyone's bucket list, and if it's not then you better get a pen and add it!

EDEN | PHOTO DIARY

We drove across a lovely bridge which took us over a beach in Merimbula. As we were trying to get to the Victoria border we decided not to stop here and continue to the next town along; Eden.

It was a very hot day so we parked Julie under the shade and walked across the road to the beach in Eden. This is the last town before the border into Victoria.

The beach was very long and stretched along the bay.

I had to take a photo of the ship called 'Norfolk', which according to the story dropped anchor in the bay on one of its journeys.

PEBBLY BEACH | PHOTO DIARY

Pebbly Beach is a little place just off the Princes Highway, between Bateman's Bay and Ulladulla. Originally we had not planned to stop here but we spotted the name on a map and decided it sounded interesting. So we drove down the dirt track for about twenty minutes until we came across it. It cost $7 to park, due to the beach being situated in a National Park.

The first thing we noticed when we got onto the sand where the wild kangaroos!

Then we noticed the bluebottles lining the shoreline, due to almost standing on a couple!

We took a wander across the rocks and the way the stone had been carved by the waves was spectacular. Look how neat those lines are!

Looking out to sea from the tip of the rocks.

The tide was coming in and the waves where getting choppy so we didn't spend too long at the end of the rocks...

But there was a couple of lovely little nooks that had been created by the sea.

Once back on shore we went back to the Kangaroos. Yes, I know you shouldn't approach wild ones.

This one was very cute and soft. Please ignore how red I am, i can assure you it's just the setting on my camera!

In the end it was a good $7 spent.
